Testing Out a New Idea

Hi, everyone! It feels like I took an unintentional hiatus last month, mostly due to a sudden bout of indecision and holiday distraction. Now I think I’ve got my schedule (such as it is) straightened out, so I thought I’d have some fun by trying something new. I may have mentioned that I do some fiction writing, and I thought maybe it’s time I start sharing some of that on my blog. For starters, I’ve got slightly revised versions of some super short pieces originally shared on Twitter, but I hope to eventually share some longer stories. Updates, and Second Blogiversary!

They say time flies when you’re having fun. Recently, I guess I must have been having too much fun posting since I forgot my own blogiversary! After the dry spell of summer, it was nice to get a sudden surge of ideas. I missed the actual anniversary back in August, so I decided to combine my celebratory post with my regular Updates. Anyway, Illuminating the Fool’s Mirror has been around for two years now, and I’m so happy to still be musing with you! Continue reading “Updates, and Second Blogiversary!”

July 2021 Updates

Well, I’ve survived my brush with the 2021 heat dome so far. It certainly wasn’t fun. I’m never a big fan of hot temperatures, and I’m among the people who don’t have air conditioning in my house. Yet I’m well aware that what I experienced was only a brush. Many people are still suffering from the extreme temperatures, and summer is far from over. How are conditions at your current location? How are you coping with things? Continue reading “July 2021 Updates”

March 2021 Updates

Spring is here! I hope all of you are getting a chance to enjoy some sign of new life and returning light. I’ll admit my hay-fever gives me mixed feelings about spring flowers, but so far things haven’t been so bad. I even got to enjoy some lovely spring rain, which tends to put me in the writing mood. How about you? How is spring treating you so far?

First Blogiversary!

Illuminating the Fool’s Mirror is officially a year old! Technically, the anniversary for my WordPress account was a while back, but this marks one year ago that I published my first feature-length article. A couple of my blogger friends have recently posted about reaching that first year milestone, including Kacha and Dragon Warrior. Reading about their journeys brought me back to this post that I read when I first started blogging. Can you believe most blogs don’t make it past to their first year? Congratulations to all of you who have one, two, or more years on your blog. I’m so glad you’re here and so happy to be standing with you! Continue reading “First Blogiversary!”

June 2020 Updates And Beast Suggestions

Hello, everyone! I’m doing my updates post a little early because I’ve got a few special posts coming up this month. First up, Red Thread Reblog is back! If you’re not familiar with this feature, Red Thread Reblog reaches out into the blogging community and ties together two posts, one covering media inspired by mythology and one on the mythology behind the media. I won’t give too much away yet, but I will give you one hint: dragons. Continue reading “June 2020 Updates And Beast Suggestions”

March 2020 Updates and Beast Suggestions

Well, it’s been a crazy year so far, and it’s still early. I sincerely hope you are all well and holding up fine under social distancing/quarantine wherever you are. The coronavirus situation is affecting all of us, in ways we may not have expected. In terms of blogging, my biggest hurdle right now is not being able to access physical books from libraries. That’s pretty minor. It might delay a few of my posts, but I’ll continue to share as well as visiting your blogs to enjoy your wit, wisdom, and artwork in the coming months. I know many of you are facing much more frightening situations. Hopefully, the situation will soon begin to improve, although I’m sure it will leave changes in its wake.

So, switching down to site news: It’s getting close to April, which means I’m getting ready for another Quarterly Bestiary! As always, I’m officially inviting you to suggest beasts you’d like covered in the future, though I’ll be happy to consider suggestions made at any time. I’ve also got one more Sunshine post, which will probably come first because I need a something to brighten my blog right now.

Also, you may have noticed a small change in my last post. I include a list of sources at the end of my posts because I want to be transparent about where I’m getting my information. However, I’ve come to realize that long list is a bit of a pain to scroll through on the way to the “like” and “share” buttons, not to mention the comments. With that in mind, I’ve decided to make the sources section collapsible. I’ve seen hints that this feature doesn’t work on all browsers, however, so I want to ask you how your experience of this new feature has been so far. Is it working? Do you like it? Please tell me if you’ve had any technical difficulties or have any opinions about it so that I can continue to improve!

New Year’s Update 2020: Quarterly Bestiary, New Feature, and Cats

Hello, 2020! The New Year has arrived. What new projects are you planning? Now, I know you can start new ventures at any time during the year. In fact, I hope you do. But the start of a new year is great for drumming up motivation to renew and change with the calendar. In that spirit, I’ve got a couple of news items!
